The Ministry of Environment and K-water announced a plan to promote the development of a “water resources/ disaster management mid-size satellite” through an investment of approximately KRW 138.4 billion, with a goal to launch the satellite in 2025. This project is aimed towards climate change response and water-related disaster monitoring. A “Korean style water disaster monitoring satellite” to comprehensively monitor the status of water resources and disasters all over the Korean Peninsula will be independently developed. The Ministry of Environment and K-water anticipate that this project will serve as a foundation for innovating the national disaster management system through a preemptive response to the water-related disasters, while also creating related jobs.
