K-water and Jeju Province signed a basic agreement on January 25 to improve water flow rate. In attendance at the ceremony were K-water CEO Lee Hak-soo, Governor of Jeju Province Won Hee-ryong, Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Council member Ko Jeong-sik, and others. Jeju Island has been experiencing difficulties in managing water flow rate due to the geographical characteristics of the slope terrain from Hallasan Mountain at the center to the coast, stratum structure into which rainwater easily penetrates, and high water pressure. Since 2016, K-water and Jeju have introduced an optimal water distribution network management system to promote a pilot project to improve water flow rate in the Topyeong and Aewol areas. As a result of the project, the water flow rate in Topyeong increased from 60% to 87%, and that of Aewol soared from 24% to 83%. The optimal water distribution network management system systematically analyzes and manages water flow rate and leakage by dividing water supply zones into blocks and monitoring tap water flow underground.
