K-water and Jeju plan to establish a comprehensive project plan based on the new agreement, and to conclude a project implementation agreement at the end of the year. When the project starts under this agreement, an optimal water distribution network management system will be established to systematically manage water leaks. Based on this, K-water plans to raise Jeju’s water flow rate to 75% by 2023, and to further improve it to 83%, the national average rate, through the maintenance of the water distribution network. Once the optimal water distribution network management system has been established, the average daily water consumption can be reduced by 76,000 ㎥. In addition, the cost of producing tap water is expected to decrease by 96.2 billion KRW and alternative water resource development cost by 140.4 billion KRW (236.6 billion in total), thus greatly helping to improve the business balance of Jeju’s waterworks business. K-water has improved the water flow rates of 32 municipalities starting with Nonsan, Chungcheongnam-do in 2004.
What is water flow rate?
The percentage of the water (water flow quantity) accounted for the calculation of water charges divided by the total water quantity (total supplied water quantity) supplied after being produced in water purification plants. The higher the water flow rate, the less water leaks into the ground.
Water flow rate = water flow quantity / total supplied water quantity.
