On the 23rd, K-water and KEPCO signed a ‘Cooperation Contract for the Development of Water-Based Solar PV.’ This contract provides for: cooperation in the development of a water-based solar PV system; the establishment of a joint investment fund for its development; and the construction of transmission facilities and exchanges of technology for its expansion. The water-based solar PV system consists of a solar power generation facility that will be installed on the surface of water bodies such as dams and lakes. It can efficiently utilize the large area of the water surface to collect solar power, and can minimize environmental damage. In addition, the resulting shade on the water surface will reduce algal bloom, and the cooling effect from the water temperature will make the power generation highly efficient. K-water will lead the way in the expansion of renewable energy supplies through its cooperation with KEPCO and the ‘Government 3.0’ organizations, and will continue to magnify the developmental potential to foster water-based solar PV as a new energy industry.
