Paradigm Shift in Tap Water Service

K-water is building public trust through supplying “Healthy Tap Water”, which is high-quality tap water that is both clean and safe and contains balanced minerals that are good for human’s health. As the average income and living standards continue to improve, the general public has put more importance on their health, resulting in increased desire for drinking water with better taste and quality. Therefore, with improving the tap water quality through the improvement of aging water pipelines, adoption of advanced water treatment systems, and multi-item quality inspections, K-water actualizes its Smart Water Management Initiative to earn public trust and satisfaction by supplying not only clean and safe, but also “Healthy” tap water through stringent management on the whole cycle of tap water production and supply.
※ Smart Water Management Initiative (SWMI): A new water management paradigm that K-water pursues to ensure the quality, safety, and efficiency of water service, utilizing advanced information and communication technologies. It emphasizes on actualizing water service in an integrated manner covering the entire water cycle with the “Integrated Water Resource Management” and “Smart Water Grid”(intelligent water grid).

From Water Sources to Household Taps: Safe Water Service

All of K-water’s waterworks have applied the Water Safety Plan (WSP) since 2012 to ensure the safety of water service. WSP is designated to identify and respond to potential tap water quality risks in the process of water treatment and supply. K-water has established "Water Safety Index" (WSI), which measures the level of tap water safety service. As the index score approaches 1, higher safety is achieved.
In 2014, the average WSI over K-water's 37 multi-regional waterworks was 0.828, which was evaluated as being higher than the previous year, suggesting the improvement of K-water's tap water safety service. It was resulted from K-water’s continuous efforts for improvement across a total of 202 tap water quality issues through establishing a water quality accident response system, harmful substance inflow monitoring for drinking water sources, and so on.
※ Water Safety Plan: Global guidelines for drinking water quality management which World Health Organization and International Water Association developed and encouraged for global water suppliers to introduce for ensuring the safety of tap water

In addition, K-water applied the strictest water quality standards among the ones of developed countries and World Health Organization, and named “Global Water Quality Standard”. K-water manages all its waterworks with the aim of satisfying the “Global Water Quality Standard” by injecting the optimum amount of water purifying chemicals and by using its advanced water treatment technologies.

Smart Water City Project

K-water is developing “Smart Water City” projects, which include an improved water supply system and individually customized customer services. The Smart Water City project is K-water’s new tap water service model based on its Smart Water Management Initiative to gain the public’s trust in tap water by providing water quality inspection visiting services, open access to tap water quality information, and “Safe Tap Water Assurance”, a program to compensate customers when tap water quality does not meet the requirements for life and properties’ safety.
