To reduce the emission of pollutants such as livestock excretions that increase the occurrence of green tide in summer, K-water conducts intensive inspection of the pollutant sources causing algal blooms at 13 multi-purpose dams and weirs throughout the country with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and local governments. In May, near the upstream Daecheongho Lake and Hoeincheon Stream, K-water worked with these agencies to install rain-proof tarps over neglected livestock manure and conducted a campaign and a crackdown on the emission of pollutant sources among farms and business establishments along the riverside. K-water also monitored non-point pollutant sources using drones and distributed materials that enhance the understanding of green algae in order to encourage local residents to voluntarily participate in the reduction of pollutant sources.
