As a part of KOICA’s fellowship program, K-water Academy held the 1st year program of Capacity Building Course on Improved Decision Making Using GIS for 20 participants from the Philippines. Useful lectures and study visits were included in the program to give them a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience dealing with various GIS software programs, such as ArcGIS, K-GIS, HEC-RAS, HEC-GEORAS, and more. Also, during the two weeks, with K-water expert's assistance, participants were able to develop many feasible action plans to be implemented in the Philippines. With everyone’s enthusiasm for learning and active participation, the program was completed with great success.

In addition, through various cultural excursion activities like city tour (Seoul & Busan) and home visiting, the participants’ were able to experience and enjoy Korean culture and its people. During the city tours, participants were able to learn about Korea’s rich history and see the great development of Korea, whereas during the home visiting, participants visited the homes of K-water staffs to meet their family and to learn about Korean families and customs.

During the two weeks of the program, the participants from the Philippines and K-water staffs were able to form both strong partnerships and close friendships. With that said, along with the strengthened relationship, K-water Academy will work closely with KOICA and the Philippines to design and to develop a follow-up program that best meets the educational needs of the Philippines regarding the GIS-based decision making.
